At BMIS, the concept of whānau is at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by the Māori understanding of whānau as a family-like community, our school is structured into five teams, each embodying one of our core values. These whānau provide a nurturing environment where students feel a strong sense of belonging, support, and shared purpose.
Each whānau is named after one of our values—Manawanui (Commitment), Manaaki (Care), Atawhai (Courtesy), Atamai (Common Sense), and Mahi Tahi (Cooperation) —and represents the unique strengths and qualities we cultivate in our students.
These values guide our actions, interactions, and aspirations as a school community. Within their whānau, students engage in activities that promote teamwork, leadership, and a deep connection to our school culture. By working together, celebrating successes, and supporting one another, our whānau build the foundations for academic, social, and emotional growth.
